Baking Animations

It is important to bake the animations in order to reduce optimize the glb for Portals

Step 1: Select Your Animated Object

  • Open your Blender project with the animated object you want to bake and export.

Step 2: Go to the Animation Layout

  • Change the layout to the "Animation" workspace in Blender. You can do this by selecting it from the workspace dropdown in the top-left corner of the interface.

Step 3: Bake the Animation

  • In the Timeline or Dope Sheet editor, select your animated object.
  • Go to the "Object" menu at the top of the screen.
  • Choose "Animation," and then select "Bake Action."

Step 4: Configure Bake Settings

  • In the "Bake Action" panel that appears, configure the bake settings according to your animation needs. Typically, you'll want to set the frame range and select the desired animation data (location, rotation, scale) to bake. Make sure to choose an appropriate frame step as well.

Step 5: Bake the Animation

  • Click the "Bake" button in the "Bake Action" panel. Blender will calculate and store the animation data based on your settings.

Step 6: Save Your Project

  • Save your Blender project to ensure that the baked animation is saved along with it.

Step 7: Export as GLB

  • Now, go to the "File" menu and select "Export > glTF 2.0 (.glb/.gltf)."
  • In the export settings, ensure you have the appropriate options selected, including "Selected Objects" and "Animation."
  • Choose a location to save your GLB file.

Step 8: Export the GLB

  • Click the "Export glTF 2.0" button.

You've now successfully baked and exported your animation as a GLB file from Blender.
